Pre-hearing Conference update and COMMUNITY LAWN SALE SATURDAY JUNE 06 REMINDER

A large thank you to all of you who came to the meeting.  It was a good turn out and even the Board Member adjudicating, Karen Kraft Sloan, commented that if we expected as large a turn out at the subsequent meeting to please let them know and she’d arrange for a larger room. The LCC has hired the firm of ERIC K. GILLESPIE Barristers & Solicitors to represent us at the hearing.  The lawyer who is handling the case is Ian Flett, both Ian and the firm have a great deal of experience at the OMB arguing development cases.  Their experience in Municipal and Land Use Planning law has earned their firm a place on the Novae Res Urbis Top Ten Planning and Development Law Firms for 2014 in Toronto. The developer has hired David Bronskill of Goodman & Carr to represent them.  The City was represented by their lawyer and Leontine Major of City Planning was there as well.

The Pre-hearing conference is used to establish who is requesting “Party” status and who is asking to be a “Participant”.  The City, the LCC and Rockport (the developer) all requested Party status.  The Greater Beach Neighbourhood Association (GBNA) represented by Uwe Sehmrau requested to be a participant as did Caroline Winship who was a member of the Stakeholder advisory committee Queen Street East Leslieville Planning Study.  Both of them were active in helping to establish the Mid-Rise guidelines that are currently in effect between Coxwell east through Kew Gardens(GBNA) and Leslie to Booth to the west.  It is wonderful that we have them on board to show that the Queen east neighbourhood communities have always been active in the formulation of the guidelines necessary for good  planning and development.

The rest of the hearing was taken up with the selection of a series of dates for mediation and, should mediation not produce a resolution, the dates for the subsequent Pre-hearing conference and the actual hearing.  There was not been a final mediation date provided yet but a mid-July date was requested.

We will be meeting with the LCC’s counsel very soon and will keep you posted of upcoming developments.
